Cars, Crustaceans, Cocktails & Countertops

Autumn falls across New England like a bright patchwork quilt, the cooler weather painting the landscape in broad strokes of scarlet, gold, and shocking orange. October air turns crisp with fewer boats in the harbor while the summer-blue sky deepens into cobalt. Locals break out their wool sweaters and hang on to as many activities as possible before winter hits! If you need some ideas, check out the events below:

Cars…

America’s love affair with automobiles is intrinsic and Newport’s role is essential. There are 12 Concours d’Elegance car shows in North America, one of which takes place right here! With a weeklong of events, some ticketed and others free, the crown jewel of the Audrain Newport Concours & Motor Week takes place on Sunday, October 2nd. The Concours classes span from early 1900 to 1980 with a focus on cars that pay homage to the theme of History, Luxury, and Sport. Trophies and ribbons will be awarded with the first in class winners competing for the Willie K. Vanderbilt Trophy.

Crustaceans…

Named one of the ’10 Fabulous Fall Festivals on the Coast,” by Coastal Living Magazine is the “Harvest of the Sea” at Historic Bowen’s Wharf in downtown Newport, RI, on October 15th and 16th, 2022. The 31st annual Bowen’s Wharf Seafood Festival offers

fresh, local seafood from fish tacos, lobster rolls, stuffies, chowder, fried calamari, clams, oysters, signature cocktails and cold beer along with frozen lemonade, donuts, and kettle corn. All accompanied by live music and family fun beneath the Wharf’s colorful tents. Cafe-style seating is set up throughout the Wharf and proceeds from festival bars benefit Oliver Hazard Perry, RI’s 200-foot official sailing education vessel.

Cocktails…

Mixologists are people who focus their efforts and attention on learning and evolving cocktail recipes and mixed drinks.

They thrive on the process of creating a cocktail and can be fanatical about perfecting the art and science of mixology.

Skilled mixologists can conjure up original mixed drinks based on intuition and knowledge of how ingredients pair, as well as the best way to serve a particular drink. If you’re interested in perfecting your skills, check out these classes.

Countertops…

The countertop is an essential component of the kitchen. It is where all the action takes place and is the foundation of kitchen décor. It warrants serious consideration when setting the tone and feel of the space. It matters what material, finish, and design you choose for your countertop with a focus on color and material choices. From honed & polished, veining & patterns, bold & dramatic, to sustainable and concrete materials, there is not a shortage of choices. Spoiler alert: quartz is still king of kitchen countertops. Here’s an article from The Spruce to help you find the best countertop that fits your lifestyle.
