Winemaker Tastings

There is a new vineyard in town that is worth checking out. Gooseneck Vineyards is located at 1340 Tower Hill Road in North Kingstown. You may have driven right past it and noticed the major building renovation and new plantings. Packed with a variety of wines to sample and purchase along with cooking classes, music events, and food trucks to enhance the overall experience. They also host winemaker tastings designed for enthusiasts and connoisseurs alike with engaging sessions and hands-on exploration of wine varieties, the winemaking process, and sensory evaluation. The owner’s passion and mission are to scour the globe and find the right elements to create wines that over-deliver but are always true to the grape variety.

Water Pipes

The Newport water department is actively working to identify all of the service line materials throughout the water supply. This new program is to help the department comply with the EPA’s Lead and Copper Rule Improvements and Rhode Island’s Lead Poisoning Prevention Act.

To assist in identifying your service line composition, the NWD has imported all of its service line material data into a mapping system to allow you to check the material of the service line on your property (private) and the service line on the city owned side (public). They are not always the same material.

The NWD sent out letters to properties they identified as having lead. The city’s website says, “If you received two letters indicating different types of service line material, we encourage you to check their mapping system which will allow you to see the service line material on both the private side and the public side. Materials of service lines are categorized as known and unknown:”

• Known service lines are labeled

 Lead or Not Lead

• Unknown service lines are labeled as

Likely Lead or Unlikely Lead or Unknown

To check the status of your property, use the search feature in the top left corner of the service map link below to lookup your address in the City of Newport: Department of Utilities Water Service Line Material Map.

NWD reviews all survey submissions. If you are still unable to determine your service line material or NWD staff cannot confirm the material based on the information provided, an inspection will be scheduled to verify the material of your line. If you have an unknown material but elect not to complete the survey, you may call 401-845-5600 or email LeadInfo@CityofNewport.com to schedule an inspection
